Stochastic Unit Economics

A planned unit-economics model that tags every line item by what is known, variable, or still unknown.

Intended use

What this kit is being designed to do

  • Define venture economics explicitly
  • Separate deterministic and uncertain inputs
  • Select inputs for sensitivity analysis

Business mini-lecture

A precise spreadsheet can still be strategically wrong.

A neat unit-economics spreadsheet can create false confidence when uncertain inputs are presented as settled numbers. A stochastic model labels what is observed, estimated, variable, or unknown, while keeping units and time windows explicit. It becomes valuable when pricing, acquisition, fulfillment, retention, or service costs begin to shape product choices, funding needs, and growth plans.

The proposed capability would organize line items, trace sources, and identify assumptions that deserve sensitivity analysis. It cannot choose the right metric definition or decide that an unattractive model is acceptable because of strategic option value. Founders must validate every unit, challenge unsupported inputs, and own the interpretation of what the economics permit the company to do.

Operating contract

Inputs, outputs, and gates

Inputs

  • Revenue and cost assumptions
  • Units and time windows
  • Available source evidence

Outputs

  • Line-item model
  • Known and unknown tags
  • Priority sensitivity inputs

Gates

  • Founder approves metric definitions
  • Founder reviews every source and unit
  • Founder accepts the uncertainty tags

Known limits

What this record does not promise

  • The kit and model template have not been implemented in this repository.
  • Estimated inputs remain assumptions until supported by observed data.

Lineage

Where the intended practice comes from

Planned Founder Hub foundation record. Its authoritative source inputs and transformation decisions must be pinned in the implementation evidence packet.

Lineage explains provenance; it does not substitute for a review record, field evidence, or a versioned implementation.
